St. Patrick’s Day has become a day when we all raucously celebrate Irish culture in the best way we know how: a stiff drink and the craic. Most classic Irish cocktails feature some combination of Irish whiskey, stout beer, and Irish cream — all malty, cozy spirits that help warm us up through the last few weeks of winter.
St. Patrick’s Day just wouldn’t start off on the right foot without a strong Irish Coffee, so scroll on down to find my classic recipe and fun riffs!

1) Lucky Hugo Tonic
A St. Patrick’s Day twist on the classic Hugo Spritz, with fresh cucumber juice and gin!
What You’ll Need
- Cucumber juice (easily homemade)
- Elderflower liqueur
- Gin
- Tonic water
- Soda water (optional)
- Garnishes: Fresh mint and cucumber slices
2) Gold Rush
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a wee bit o’ gold and a healthy pour of the best Irish whiskey you can get yer lucky hands on. I put a little twist on this one, which I’m calling a Pot o’ Gold!

3) Smoked Apple Whiskey Tonic
With apple whiskey, apple juice, and a hint of smoke, it’s like you just went apple-picking with your long-lost Irish grandfather.

4) Irish Stout Espresso Martini
Get the day drinking started early with an Irish Stout Espresso Martini for breakfast.

5) Grasshopper
