Guinness Iced Irish Coffee

Classic Irish Coffees are made with just four ingredients: hot coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar and whipped cream. This Guinness Iced Irish coffee is super creamy and made with cold brew coffee instead of hot coffee. Guinness is added to give your iced Irish coffee a smooth, rich, malty flavor. This recipe still uses traditional Irish whiskey, but I also add coffee liqueur to meld and elevate all the flavors.
My Guinness Iced Irish Coffee is an obvious choice for St. Patrick’s Day (or the morning after). But it hits just about any time of year, too, whether you’re wearing green or not.

How to Make a Guinness Iced Irish Coffee
- In a cocktail shaker, add Irish whiskey, coffee liqueur, simple syrup, and cold brew.
- Add ice and shake.
- Strain into a highball glass filled with ice.
- Top with Guinness, leaving room for heavy cream.
- Top the remaining space in the glass with lightly whipped heavy cream.
- Garnish and enjoy!
Ingredients & Substitutions
- Simple Syrup: This recipe uses brown sugar simple syrup for the sweet element, which melds so nicely with the rich, malty, bitter flavors of the other ingredients. You could use regular simple syrup instead. Add as little or as much syrup as you want to suit your own sweet tooth.
- Heavy Cream: Use Irish cream instead.
- Guinness: Any Breakfast or Oatmeal Stout will work, but Guinness is by far my favorite. The nitro element makes the iced Irish coffee even creamier.

Irish Coffee Variations
- Try the Classic Irish Coffee first!
- Add vanilla ice cream to make it an Irish Coffee Milkshake
- If you love Guinness and coffee together, try this Guinness Espresso Martini
Tips
- Make your cold brew overnight in a french press or buy a bottle of cold brew at the store.
- Lightly froth the heavy cream before pouring into your Guinness Iced Irish Coffee. You can used a handheld frother, a milk frother on an espresso machine, or an electric milk frother.
- Make the simple syrup ahead of time so it has time to cool before you add it to your iced Irish coffee.
- Pour the Guinness gently and at an angle and wait a minute or two before drinking so the nitro stout has time to settle.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Guinness is my favorite stout to add to an iced Irish coffee, but you could also use your local favorite. Breakfast and Oatmeal stouts in the Irish tradition will be the most smooth.
- It’s the perfect late afternoon pick-me-up, with caffeine, whiskey, and stout.
- A Guinness Iced Irish Coffee is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day, which is one of the biggest drinking holidays of the year.
- Irish coffee is even better cold. We can’t all enjoy a hot cocktail year-round, so for those warmer months, this iced version is a great option for anytime you’d normally have a classic Irish coffee.
