Why are we joining Jules?
The idea behind โJoiningโ Jules sprung up during our 2020 era, where we truly we trying our best to keep ourselves entertained. My form of entertainment of course was expanding my cocktail knowledge. Since 2020 Iโve always asked my community to โJOINโ me from hosting a fantastic happy hour at home, how to craft up a classic Martini, and now to joining me in my own personal life. It started with the idea that Iโm bringing you, my community, into my happy hour space of life! Itโs also fun to say youโre joining Jules.

Were you a bartender before this?
Short answer, NO! Long answer, Iโm completely self taught. Before I started sharing recipes online, I was really interested in finding the best happy hours locally here in San Diego. Once 2020 happened, I really couldnโt explore that passion and therefore did the next logical thing which was to craft them up myself! A wise bartender once told me to not waste my money on bartending classes, rather to spend that money buying books and booze and teaching myself! And so, I did. Now, Iโve had some pretty great mentorsโฆ Uncle Brad to name a pretty important one. He did however come from the bartending background as his dad owned a bar, he bartended in college, and he himself continued to have this passion for cocktail history. Other than mentors, a book that really educated me on the ins and outs of bartending that I recommend for everyone learning to make cocktails is: The Cocktail Codex. So, donโt be scared to start shaking up something at home, even if it doesnโt taste good the first time – thereโs always room to explore and get better!

How do you come up with ideas?
This is a really funny question I get asked all the time. More bluntly the question is; How do you never run out of ideas?! Truthfully, many many cocktails are all based on somethingโฆ kind of like food and desserts. So, once you understand the balance in liquid form you can really start to play. You see, I was born in Northern California where my family has been farming for generations. Itโs due to this upbringing, I always knew where my food came from, the people behind, and seasonality. I say this because, I constantly take cues from both classic cocktails but mainly from seasonality. As the seasons change the recipes follow suite. Itโs so fun to constantly be inspired by what you can find at a farmers market. And to that I answer, I donโt think Iโll ever run out of ideas!
