The Redrum Royale

This Redrum Royale cocktail is a spine-chilling tribute to one of the most haunting films of all time, The Shining. Inspired by the eerie ambiance of the Overlook Hotel, this cocktail blends bold flavors with a touch of mystery. It’s a drink as complex as the corridors to Room 237. With its rich red wine base, warming spices, and a hint of citrus, this is a perfect choice for your next movie night. Or make it for a Halloween soirée with a cinematic twist.
How to Make a Redrum Royale
- Add red wine, Cognac, sweet vermouth, vanilla syrup, allspice dram, and lemon juice into a shaker and shake with ice.
- Double strain into a coupe glass.
- Garnish with ground nutmeg on top.
Redrum Royale Ingredients

Red Wine
You can use whatever your favorite red wine is for this Halloween cocktail. I like one with lower tannins like a Pinot Noir or Grenache.
Cognac
Cognac is a protected type of brandy made only in the Cognac region of France. It’s made from wine grapes, is twice-distilled in copper pots, and is aged in French oak barrels. It also might just be one of my favorite smells in the world.
Sweet Vermouth
Sweet vermouth is a fortified, aromatized white wine sweetened with sugar or caramel, which gives it a rich, reddish-brown color and flavors of vanilla, dark fruit, and spices.
Vanilla Syrup
If you can boil water, you can make your own vanilla simple syrup at home!
Allspice Dram
Allspice dram is one of those rarely used but game-changing liqueurs. It’s usually made in Jamaica from allspice berries and rum. If you like the flavors of fall and winter baking, I’m sure you’ll find plenty of uses for a bottle of this stuff.
Lemon Juice
If it’s not fresh, we don’t want it!

Tips for Making the Best Redrum Royale
- Use your favorite red wine. If you like it, you’ll love the final cocktail.
- Make your own vanilla simple syrup. It really is super easy and saves you money! Plus, a lot of vanilla simple syrups use artificial vanilla flavor instead of the real stuff.
- To get all he ingredients nice and cold, shake them until the shaker gets frosty on the outside. Shaking with ice also dilutes the cocktail as the ice melts a little as you shake.
