Traveling to Austin, Texas?
Austin is one of my favorite places to visit. The people, the atmosphere, and of course the cocktails. Thereโs plenty to explore here and itโs not done yet.
Hereโs a quick 3 day weekend itinerary from my last trip to Austin. Short but sweet and always leaving me wanting more! Iโll also list all the recommendations that I received that I wasnโt able to check out for myself.
Fair warning: lots of cocktails were consumed therefore this is more of a cocktail itinerary!
Day 1
-
Our first stop Peche
-
Peche is distinctly Austin’s first absinthe bar with French fare. Not only that, when we walked In they had the best happy hour from 5pm-7pm
-
We had two rounds of cocktails here, one on happy hour and then others from their cocktail menu. (yes, I did get an absinthe cocktail). Overall, great cocktails and an amazing vintage cocktail bar scene. Check out their cocktail menu
-
-
After Peche, we found ourselves at the famous Roosevelt Room.
-
If youโre looking for cocktails that are ALL about presentation, this is it.
-
Not only is their presentation fantastic, they practically have a cocktail book for you to choose your cocktails. Check out their cocktail menu
-
Tip to make a reservation as it does get busy!
-
-
After forgetting about dinner, we stumbled into Ireneโs for a bite as we were starving.
-
Ireneโs is an American restaurant with Texas soul. We didnโt choose one bad thing on the menu.
-
Not only does Ireneโs have great food but even better cocktails! Check out their menu
-
-
Next, we had to go to Whislerโs, which supposedly is a Mezcal bar, and therefore I had to find out for myself.
-
Whislerโs is one of those places you donโt forget. Itโs a big space with multiple bars and gets a little crowded on the weekends. Even for a Thursday night, it was popular! (This for me, is normally a good sign).
-
Whislerโs ambiance is just perfect, itโs a rustic-chic watering hole with craft cocktails & a patio that apparently has frequent live music shows. Check out their cocktail menu
-
Now for the Mezcal barโฆ well hereโs the thing, itโs hidden. But, if you go upstairs youโll find It. Itโs here you wonโt find mezcal cocktails but rather a wide variety of craft mezcals where you can sample and taste. If youโre a mezcal lover, this is a must-stop. You can learn more here

PSA: Each evening consisted of a nightly nightcap at one of our all-time favorites, which should be yours too, Nickel City. Trust me on this one. Check out their cocktail menu
Day 2:
-
Spent the morning @ Joโs Coffee & walked around the shops. itโs here youโll find the I love you mural, the famous Allenโs Boots store, and of course, amazing vintage shops.
-
Thereโs a couple of options for breakfast in South Congress
-
Fresas: Known for its amazing grab-and-go tacos but also has some of the best sides in town. Not only that, happy hour on the patio is a must.
-
Cafe no se: Also in south congress, this place is such a great brunch spot and has really aesthetic cocktails to sip alongside your brunch.
-
-
Lunch @ La Barbecue: If youโre not looking to wait in the longest line of your life for BBQ at Franklin Barbecue, then La Barbecue is a MUST. Iโve come back here again and again and it has never once disappointed me. One of the best authentic bbq in Austin!
-
Looking for a liquor store? Check out Zekeโs Liquor!
-
Downtown night for dinner & drinks!
-
Letโs start with drinks. Our first stop was a rooftop bar called Gin Bar. This sits on top of the ARRIVE Austin Hotel and is a great stop for an afternoon cocktail.
-
SPEAKEASY. Head down to the speakeasy Buck Wild for one of the best experiences in Austin. What once used to be a brothel is now a small speakeasy that is hard to miss. Iโll let you try to figure out how to get in! Let me know if you find it!
-
-
Looking for a fun place for drinks? If youโre looking for a fun, young crowd then Unbarlievable Is a great place to start and lots of other places to stumble upon around it.
Day 3:
-
Start with a coffee at Flat Track Coffee
-
Uber to Green Belt/sculpture falls for a fun morning/afternoon to spend a couple of hours here to hike, swim, and just take in nature.
-
Looking for a banginโ brunch? You wonโt want to miss brunch at Bangerโs. With live music, huge pitchers of mimosas, and a hearty meal. This is a perfect place for bottomless mimosas, texas style.
-
Bar hopping on Rainey street? No problem. Make sure to check out some of our favorites: Little Brother, Half Step, Container Bar, and The Tipsy Alchemist, Bungalow, and Javelina.
-
If youโre not bar hopping on a saturday donโt worry. Grab a jump bike or scoot and ride around the state capital, Lake Austin, and downtown.
-
Looking for lunch? Try torchyโs tacos in downtown

Iโd love to know if you have any favorite Austin, Texas stops?!

This travel guide to Austin is such a great resource for planning a trip! I especially love how you highlighted both well-known and hidden gems around the city, which makes it easy to enjoy both the popular spots and explore a bit off the beaten path. The restaurant recommendations are a perfect mix of casual and more upscale placesโI’ll definitely check out Lamberts for a unique BBQ experience. Your tips on outdoor activities also make Austin seem like a perfect destination for nature lovers, too.
One thing that caught my eye is the mention of the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Iโve heard it’s a great place for hiking and swimming, but how would you compare it to other popular spots in Austin for nature walks? Also, any advice for first-timers looking to enjoy the greenbelt, like trail suggestions or things to bring?
