What are we drinking?

A special Holiday episode to help inspire you for your next Holiday party. This time, we are collaborating with C&H® Sugar to create TWO homemade simple syrup recipes perfect for today's recipe and so many more cocktails this Winter season. Today Brad is making a Fig Old Fashioned and Jules is making a Cranberry Holiday Margarita, you ready?

Uncle Brad’s Recipe

What do I need?

Fig Syrup

  • C&H® Turbinado Sugar

  • Dried Figs

  • Saucepot

  • Strainer

Old fashioned:

  • Bourbon

  • Figs (Turkish / mission)

  • Orange

  • Cheery

  • Cocktail pick - longer the better

  • Ice

  • Bittercube Trinity Bitters

  • Double rocks glass

  • Mixing glass & spoon

  • Jigger

How do I make it?

  1. Make the C&H® Fig Simple Syrup

    • 1 Cup C&H® Turbinado Sugar

    • 1 Cup water

    • 5 dried figs quartered

    • In a medium saucepan add 1 cup C&H® Turbinado sugar and 1 cup water.

    • Quarter 5 dried figs and add to saucepan 

    • Heat to boil while stirring.

    • Reduce heat to simmer and let syrup simmer for 20 minutes

    • Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature 

    • Strain into a glass jar and cover (syrup will keep in fridge for 2 - 4 weeks)

  2. Chill your double rocks glass

  3. In mixing glass add:

    1. Ice

    2. 2 oz Bourbon

    3. ½ oz Fig Simple Syrup

    4. 3 dash Bitters

    5. Ice

Strain over ice into double rocks glass

Garnish with Fig and enjoy

Cranberry Cinnamon Simple Syrup:

  • C&H® Turbinado Sugar

  • Cranberries

  • Cinnamon Sticks

  • Saucepot

  • Strainer

  • Measuring Cups

Margarita:

  • Tequila

  • Limes

  • Oranges

  • Orange Liqueur

  • Rosemary, to garnish

  • Cranberries, to garnish

  • Cocktail Shaker, Double sided tin

  • Hawthorne Strainer & Fine Mesh Strainer

  • Jigger

  • Cocktail glasses

  • *Ice cube mold if making cranberry ice cubes

  • Small plate

  • Knife

  • Citrus Squeezer

  • Zester

Tip: How to make any simple syrup, storing syrups

  • Equal parts water and sugar

  • Store syrups in the fridge in a airtight container for 2-4 weeks, add 1 oz of vodka to add another 3 to 4 weeks

  • Just add any ingredient

    • Cinamon

    • Cardamon

    • Mint / Peppermint

  • Add combinations - think about the flavors around the tale

    • orange zest and cinnamon 

    • Fig and hazelnut

    • Lemon and thyme

  • Make syrup combinations like peppermint and mocha for dessert and coffee drinks
