Looking to visit one of the most beautiful cities in the world? San Miguel de Allende must be on your list. This charming yet small town is vibrant with a fantastic food scene, colorful buildings, and art galore. There is plenty of art exhibition, live music performances in the evenings, oh and did I mention cocktails? There are rooftop bars that were created in your dream here and their drinks don’t disappoint. This town gives so much it truly is a marvel that should be on your list if you’re planning a trip to Mexico!

 
 

How to get to San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende is located in central Mexico and is in the state of Guanajuato. Be prepared to drive to get to this town. To visit you can fly into the neighboring airports. One of the closest is Guanajuato International Airport (BJX), which is about an 1.5 hour car ride away. There is also Querétaro Intercontinental Airport in Querétaro which is about 1.5 hrs away as well. If you’re feeling adventerous (and want to save some dough) cheapest flights can be found to Mexico City or Guadalajara which can be anywhere from 3.5hrs to 4.5hrs to San Miguel de Allende.

Things to do

  • Visit Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel & El Jardin: This is the church you see almost everywhere, it’ll be hard to miss. Highly recommend walking by at night for live music and dancing near and around.

  • It’s hard to pinpoint just one, but I highly recommend visiting art museums. There are so many around it’s easy to stumble into one. So walk through the town and don’t be scared to pop your head in.

  • Visit El Charco de Ingenio: The beautiful botanical gardens if you’re looking for more of a nature adventure.

  • Visit the Hot Springs: Seven miles from San Miguel de Allende is Escondido Place which has indoor and outdoor thermal pools, fed by the natural springs

  • My favorite thing was their markets! Make sure to check when they’re open but here are some: Ignacio Ramírez Market, Saturday Organic Market, Mercado de Artesanias, Mercado de San Juan de Dios.

  • Visit the park El Chorro it’s beautiful and sometimes there are artists working which is a lovely sight to walk through.

  • There are so many boutique clothing stores, we spent a whole day shopping. Highly recommend walking off the beaten path and stumble into these boutique stores.

 
 

Where we stayed

  • Casa De Sierra Nevada: this was such a beautiful property where you can see the skyline of San Miguel de Allende from their rooftop. They had amazing welcome cocktails too, can’t forget about those! If you’re looking for a relaxing stay, I couldn’t recommend staying here enough.
