How to Make Vermouth and Soda

  • To a glass filled with ice, add a little dry vermouth, a couple dashes of Orange bitters, and (optional) a little olive brine.
  • Top with soda water.

What is Vermouth and Soda?

Also called a Vermouth Spritz, it’s a super simple, low-ABV cocktail made with a 2:1 ratio of soda water to dry vermouth. The final alcohol content once it’s stirred together is close to that of a beer (about 5-7% ABV). It’s often garnished with an orange slice, but any kind of citrus works great with this light and refreshing drink. If you make it a Dirty Vermouth Spritz by adding olive brine, you can garnish it with an olive. And this is a classic stirred cocktail, no shaker required.

Vermouth and Soda Variations

  • A little more boozy: If you just want a simple cocktail with a little more booze, use sparkling white wine or Prosecco instead of sparkling water. That’ll give it a little more of a Spritz vibe.
  • A little more sweetness: You can add both sweetness and unique flavors by adding any flavored simple syrup. Try a fruit syrup or an herb syrup like rosemary.
  • Make it a mule: Swap out the soda water for ginger beer for a little spicy ginger flavor and sweetness while still getting non-alcoholic bubbles.
