I’ve teamed up with my dear friend Torie Borrelli Hall from The Vida Well to help with healthy life choices. So, let’s start with dairy.

How to choose MILK

Most people start their day with a warm beverage this time of year. I learned from my nutritionist that what you put in that cup really matters. It will dictate how your day will go; energy, anxiety, mood, digestion, skin, and sleep. So let’s rethink what is in that cup.

Here are some tips:

  1. Choose your milk.

GOOD: Three Tree’s, organic canned coconut milk, organic Malk, Laird, organic full-fat cream, or try Raw milk

BAD: non-organic milk (filled with hormones and antibiotics), Oatly + TJs oat milk (sugar and toxic oils), soy milk, or Rice milk

  • Stay away from added sugars, gums, natural flavors, carragheen, rapeseed oil (canola oil) and other inflammatory ingredients

  1. Choose a caffeine source. If you can’t do caffeine read about this nutritionist approved coffee (which is on sale this month)

Our favorites are King, Bulletproof, Kion, matcha, earl grey/black tea- the goal is low acidity, no mycotoxins, and no heavy metals. These are the things that make you feel terrible its not the caffeine!

  1. Always add some superfoods:

    1. Cinnamon- blood sugar balancer

    2. Adaptogens- help boost immune system, balance adrenals and stress

  2. Sweetener. If using a sweetener choose wisely.  Stevia, monkfruit, raw honey, maple syrup – all depends on your blood sugar and goals

So you may be like me and offended about the quality of Oat Milk out there. Well, don’t worry… there are not only some good brands out there but you can easily make it yourself!

Fair warning (from Torie): Oat Milk is higher in carbs and sugar which is not ideal for starting your day. They remove the healthy fiber.

Now, let’s make a Whipped Coffee Recipe to Support Stress and Immune system

This recipe is a Dalgona coffee, originated from Korea. As we all know, this was the coffee that was a recent hit on social media outlets. However, we decided to do things a little differently around here and get rid of the inflammatory ingredients and replace them with ones that will nourish your body, but not sacrifice flavor.

RECIPE:

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar- we used monk fruit sugar

  • 2 tbsp instant coffee – we recommend using King coffee

    • King coffee is organic instant coffee with reishi spores read more here

  • 2 tbsp hot filtered water

  • 4-6 ounces milk of choice

  • Fav additions:

    • cinnamon ( blood sugar balancer)

    • adaptogens (Root & Bones discount code: TORIE)

      •  current favs-Cordyceps, astragalus, chaga, and pine pollen are favorites

  1. In a medium-sized bowl add instant coffee, monk fruit sweetener, and hot water.

  2. Using a hand milk frother, whip until a creamy, fluffy texture (about 3-5 mins)

  3. In a glass add your favorite milk with your favorite add-ins.

  4. Top with whipped coffee.

    Xoxo, cheers!
