Butterbeer Old Fashioned
Dust off your standard size 2 pewter cauldron and mix up a magical Butterbeer Old Fashioned. Made with cream soda syrup, butterscotch cream, bourbon, and bitters.

Ingredients
Cream Soda Syrup
  • 1/2 cup cream soda
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
  • Pinch of sea salt
Butterscotch Cream
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tbsp butterscotch sauce
  • Pinch of sea salt
Butterbeer Old Fashioned
  • 4 oz bourbon
  • 1 oz Cream Soda Syrup
  • 4 dashes aromatic bitters
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • Tiny pinch of sea salt
  • Butterscotch Cream, to top
  • Freshly grated nutmeg, optional
Instructions
Cream Soda Syrup
  • Add the cream soda, water, and brown sugar to a small saucepan.
  • Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for about 5–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved and the syrup has reduced slightly.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla and a pinch of sea salt.
  • Let cool completely before using.
Butterscotch Cream
  • Whip or froth until thickened but still pourable, almost like cold foam rather than whipped cream.
Butterbeer Old Fashioned
  • Add bourbon, cream soda syrup, bitters, and salt to a mixing glass with ice.
  • Stir until chilled and properly diluted.
  • Strain over two glasses with a large cube.
  • Float a thin layer of butterscotch cream over the top.
  • Finish with a little grated nutmeg if you want that cozy pub feel.
